Carnival COO to relocate to China
Carnival Corp. chief operations officer, Alan Buckelew will be deployed in China to oversee future expansion in the fast growing Asia cruise market.
Buckelew will ‘manage his full corporate responsibilities from there" said Carnival CEO Arnold Donald, signaling the importance of the emerging Asian market for the cruise line.
"China continues to be a focus for emerging market development, and we expect double-digit growth over the next few years," Arnold said.
"The Chinese government has a plan for development of a cruise industry, and that means getting tremendous support and opportunity to participate," he said.
Carnival already has four ships and 12 marketing offices in the country and capacity is up 140% over the last two years.
Buckelew, former president of Princess Cruises before taking on the role as Carnival Corp. COO, will be based in Shanghai and will look to develop partnerships with Chinese firms.
