Carnival Fantasy sustains damage in Panama Canal
Carnival Cruise Line ship the Fantasy had an unexpected bump with a wall as it passed through the Panama Canal.
It sustained minor damage but is not impacting the current 10-day cruise from Mobile, AL..
Pictures show minimal damage to overhanging handrails and broken window panes, but it hasn’t affected any shipboard amenities, and no injuries were reported.
"During Carnival Fantasy’s passage through the Panama Canal this evening, the ship came in contact with one of the locks. There are no injuries. The crew’s immediate focus was to safely complete the transit through the canal so they can then assess the extent of any damage," Carnival said in a statement.
The ship apparently hit a wall as the water levels were being lowered.
The Fantasy continued on its course with stops in Limon, Costa Rica, Mexico and Roatan before returning to Mobile.
