CarTrawler to sign with booking system provider
Car rental distribution specialist CarTrawler is poised to announce a deal with a large reservation system provider.
Bobby Healey, chief technical officer of Dublin-based CarTrawler, claimed the deal would be in place within the next 10 days.
The news came as the company announced VLM as its second airline partner following a similar deal with LOT Polish Airlines earlier this year.
The three-year deal with VLM will enable the carrier’s passengers to use flyvlm.com to research and book car rental from major suppliers across the globe including all destinations served by VLM.
CarTrawler’s technology sits on the airlines’ websites enabling consumers to check a large range of car hire rates and book their vehicle.
While some car hire reservation systems work on an ‘on request’, basis CarTrawler provides partners with a direct supply of rates and availability information.
Healey said that conversion rates for car hire on airline websites were already impressive with some airlines converting as high as 1-in-25 customers.
He said: “Car hire is a commodity and the second most purchased ancillary. We believe more than 50% of car-hire will be sold through airline websites by 2012. Airlines are the first port of call for the trip.”
CarTrawler is targeting airlines of 10 million plus passengers as well as online travel agents who are not already providing a good car-hire reservation service.
