Catch a free ride to Vancouver’s North Shore

Thursday, 18 Jun, 2009 0

Lookin’ for a free ride? Well now that free ride truly does exist. Visitors coming to Vancouver’s North Shore to stay in one of the many North Shore hotels can take a cab ride from YVR to their hotel for free.

Travelers arriving in Vancouver’s Airport are often faced with many accommodation choices. North Vancouver hoteliers decided to find a way to make accommodation decisions easier. To encourage visitors to stay on the North Shore, Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism Association will pay for the taxi ride from the airport to any of Vancouver’s North Shore hotels. Guests booking a North Vancouver hotel, between now and July 15th, will be reimbursed (up to $50) for their taxi fare to the hotel. To qualify for the free taxi ride, visitors must book in advance for a minimum two-night stay in a North Vancouver hotel during the month of July. After the guests have stayed two nights Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism Association will place a credit on the hotel room account, reimbursing the guest for their one-way fare to the hotel. Guests will simply be asked to hand in their taxi cab receipt when checking in to their hotel.

During a recent Tourism Vancouver meeting, Rick Antonson, President & CEO of Tourism Vancouver challenged lower mainland hoteliers to become creative when marketing themselves in these tough economic times. This innovative program is exactly the type of marketing Mr. Antonson was meaning.

Accommodation on the North Shore of Vancouver is varied and perfectly suited to any type of visitor. Hotels and motel-style properties are conveniently situated on major access routes, and will satisfy any traveler’s needs or budget. Because Vancouver’s North Shore is just across the bridge from downtown, visitors wanting to get back to the energy of the “city” can easily make a short jaunt to the city’s centre. Whether driving or taking public transportation, all downtown activities just are minutes away.

One never has to leave Vancouver’s North Shore for food, fun or entertainment… restaurants and shopping are plentiful. Park Royal Shopping Mall spans two sides of busy Marine Drive. Edgemont Village is filled with wonderful specialty shops and a variety of  dining choices. Deep Cove is a precious jewel sitting on the edge of Indian Arm, Pubs, shops, canoeing, kayaking and quaint strolls are the order of the day in The Cove. Lonsdale Quay is a delightful spot to taste local flavours and discover interesting collectables from the region. Any meal served at the “top of Vancouver” on Grouse Mountain is one memory not to be skipped. Food, entertainment, accommodation… it is all here, right where nature lives.
