Cathay Pacific cracking down on cabin crew theft

Thursday, 24 Apr, 2019 0

Cathay Pacific has started getting tough with light-fingered cabin crew.

Crew members have been swiping a wide range of items from the cabin, from ice cream, booze, stationery, cutlery and food.

It has been costing ‘untold hundreds of millions’ over many years, the carrier says.

A recent crackdown snared at least six flight attendants who now face possible disciplinary action, which could lead to termination.

"In view of an increasing number of reported losses of company property, we have informed our cabin crew that random inspections will be carried out,’ an airline statement said.

"We are dealing with cases in a fair and reasonable manner in accordance with standard internal procedure."

Among the most prized items to take are tubs of Häagen-Dazs ice cream and bottles of champagne.

Earlier this year the airline informed the workforce a ‘zero tolerance’ policy would be introduced and it has union support.
