Cathay Pacific launching seasonal Cape Town flights
Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific has confirmed details for a seasonal service linking the Far East with Cape Town, South Africa.
The three times weekly service will run seasonally from November 13, 2018 to February 18 2019, the airline said.
The plan was first mooted last month although Cathay was then thought to be mulling year-round service.
Cathay’s new A350-900 aircraft will be deployed on the route which joins the airline’s existing daily non-stop flights to Johannesburg.
"We are very pleased to be able to expand our services in Africa, a booming aviation market. Growing our reach to destinations that are not otherwise served from Hong Kong creates considerable new opportunities for business, trade and tourism, in addition to strengthening our home hub," said Cathay Pacific chief executive officer Rupert Hogg.
Aside for the Johannesburg route, it is one of the very few routes linking Asia with South Africa.
