Holidaymakers in search of la dolce vita have made Venice the most searched-for destination, according to website hotels.com.

The site has named its top 20 destinations that saw more search growth from last April to this April and the Italian city tops the poll with 655% growth, followed by Nusa Dua in Indonesia (600%) and, get ready for this, Cromer in Norfolk (565%).

Llandudno comes in in fourth place with 495%, Stoke-on-Trent with 425% and Disneyland Paris at 415%.

Communications Director at Hotels.com Alison Couper said: "Summer is a great time of year to go to Venice; with its long sunny days, it is the perfect spot for a romantic break. As for the UK top riser, with more of us now taking our holidays at home, it is not surprising to see traditional British seaside spots grow in popularity as well, reaching the top five."

There were ten UK spots in the top 20 – the others were Stirling, Loch Lomond, Norfolk, Stafford, Suffolk, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.
