Chalk another one up for social media
SYDNEY – Further evidence of the power of social media comes with Jetstar’s sale of tickets exclusively to its Twitter followers.
To promote its new Melbourne Airport to Sydney services, beginning on October 25, Jetstar released 10,000 free one-way flights on its Twitter feed at midnight on Wednesday.
Earlier, Tiger Airways had sent out a media release, embargoed until midnight, offering 30,00 Melbourne-Sydney fares for just $25.
Jetstar trumped this by instantly offering cheaper fares to its Twitter followers.
Jetstar then followed up with a media release about the fare offer just 17 minutes before the sale ended.
A spokesperson for the airline said more than 3000 of the 10,000 flights offered were claimed.
The airline also offered $19 one-way Melbourne-Sydney fares to its JetMail newsletter subscribers.
