Che Guevara’s son offering ‘Motorcycle Diaries’ tours of Cuba

A ‘revolutionary’ new tour of Cuba has been launched for tourists.

The youngest son of radical figure Che Guevara has set up a tour company offering Harley-Davidson motorcycle tours of the island following in the footsteps of his famous father’s Marxist past.

According to the La Poderosa Tours website, Ernesto Guevara, 49, plans to offer "intimate contact with a part of the history of a unique revolution," visiting Che’s old headquarters in Havana, his mausoleum in Santa Clara, the Armored Train and various side trips to historic attractions and beaches.

"I have been a fan of classic Harleys all my life and I like to restore them, too. My love of bikes, of bike trips and of Cuba, and the desire to show my fellow Harley bikers my beautiful country, has been the reason for setting up the tours," he said.

Tourists can glimpse on two wheels "the varied landscapes of this beautiful island," the website says, at a cost of $3,000 – $5,800 per person for six and nine day trips, staying in luxury hotels.

Guevara senior’s love of the open road on two wheels is well documented, immortalized in the 2004 film ‘Motorcycle Diaries,’ when he traveled the length of South America in the early 1950’s.

Ernesto Guevara is personally guiding the tours alongside business partner Camilo Sanchez, himself the son of 1960’s Cuban guerrilla Antonio Sanchez Díaz.
