Chennai airport closed until Sunday
Chennai airport in Southern India will remain closed until December 6 after heavy rains left the runway and taxiway completely submerged.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said the airport will stay shut until midday on Sunday as more rain is forecast in the area over the next 48 hours.
"The situation is being closely monitored and any further action will be taken subject to review for resumption of services as soon as possible,” it said.
All flights to and from Chennai, including British Airways flights from Heathrow, have been cancelled.
The city is the capital of Tamil Nadu and the biggest commercial and industrial centre in southern India.
