China air travel demand expected to plunge for Qingming holiday
China’s transport ministry says air travel will likely halve for the three-day Qingming holiday due to Covid-related restrictions and lockdowns across the country. The ministry predicts holiday road travel will decline 20%.
At least 27 Chinese provinces have reported recent Covid cases. There were over 13,000 new daily cases on April 2, the highest for over two years. Entertainment venues and tourist sites across the country have put in place capacity limits for the holidays.
