China cash hand-outs for struggling airlines
China’s finance ministry will hand out nearly half a billion dollars to struggling airlines. In a first phase of cash subsidies, airlines will receive $492million.
Airlines are entitled to funds under certain criteria such as when the average daily numbers of domestic flights drops below 4,500.
Chinese airlines have struggled of late due to lockdowns and other travel restrictions in Shanghai and Beijing, although recent easing has seen air travel rebound. It increased by more than a third this week, according to data from OAG.
