China gets to grips with incentive travel
The rising economic power of Asia will increasingly drive the growth of incentive travel in the region, says Darren Ng, managing director TTG Asia Media, speaking at the opening of IT&CM China in Shanghai.
He said Chinese MICE business was changing as it was growing.
Chinese companies were starting to recognise the value of incentive travel to reward staff.
Initially intra-Asia rather than long-haul travel for MICE events would be preferred.
“The type of incentive travel trip is also changing. The market is expecting a different kind of travel for an incentive, not just another standard group tour,†said Ng.
IT&CM China is moving to a new venue in 2012. It will be held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre.
“The new venue is bigger and will allow us to expand the event,†Ng added.
Some 10,000 business appointments between 253 international and Chinese MICE suppliers and 344 international and Chinese buyers will also be conducted at IT&CM China over the next two days.
