China Southern flies with new tournament
China Southern Airlines has made its first foray into Australian sport, signing on as the major sponsor of a new cricket tournament between two of its most valued markets, Australia and India.
The China Southern Airlines Tournament, a Twenty20 charity series scheduled to take place every two years, will debut in Sydney in October with Cricket NSW and the Mumbai Cricket Association competing for the NSW Maharashtra Cricket Cup.
Funds raised during the inaugural China Southern Airlines Tournament will go to the 40K Foundation which takes on joint venture projects to reduce poverty in developing countries.
A new charity will be chosen to benefit from each series.
Already a principal sponsor of the annual Sydney Festival, the China Southern Airlines Tournament represents the airline’s first sponsorship of a sporting event.
