China Southern goes flat-out for Sydney
China Southern Airlines’ new A330-300 offering 30 fully flat beds in Business Class and personal TVs throughout will begin flying from Sydney on July 11.
China Southern regional general manager Australia/New Zealand, Henry He, said the new aircraft would join the A330-200 aircraft now flying into Brisbane and Perth.
In addition, China Southern’s new A380 superjumbos will join the Sydney run on October 28.
An A330-300 will also fly on the Melbourne service from China Southern’s Guangzhou base later this year.
Chinese authorities recently announced that the cities of Guangzhou and Chengdu would allow transit passengers from 45 countries to visit their respective cities for 72 hours without a visa, following Beijing and Shanghai’s recent success with this new policy.
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, has not released an official start date for the new visa-free programme, but will likely put the policy into effect later this year.
Visitors to Shanghai through either of the city’s two airports – Hongqiao and Pudong – can stay in the city for up to 72 hours without a visa, but cruise patrons are currently limited.
However, the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration is planning to expand the three-day visa-free stay to visitors coming into Shanghai from cruise terminals.
