China Southern increases flights for summer peak
China Southern Airlines has announced increased daily flights from Australia throughout the peak Christmas – New Year period, to accommodate strong seasonal bookings.
Until the end of February, the airline has moved from the current five flights per week to daily services from Sydney to Guangzhou, formerly known as Canton, with flights from Melbourne to Guangzhou, via Sydney, remaining at three per week, departing every Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
The nine-hour daylight flights from Sydney arrive in Guangzhou at 5.00pm, in time to connect smoothly with onward services to key centres including Shanghai and Beijing.
China Southern flights between Australia and China are operated with new dual-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft, featuring minipod flat beds in Premium Business Class.
“It is now six years since we commenced nonstop services from Sydney to Guangzhou,” said Mr James Liu, General Manager Australia for China Southern Airlines.
“Throughout this period we have continued to generate good growth in passenger volumes to Guangzhou, and beyond to destinations throughout China,” said Mr Liu.
“We expect business and leisure travel between China and Australia to continue to increase, as commerce strengthens between the countries and as we near the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which will draw enormous numbers of visitors from Australia and elsewhere around the world.”
From Australia, Guangzhou is both the closest major city in mainland China, and the primary hub for China Southern’s operations throughout China, and beyond to other destinations throughout Asia, Europe and the USA.
The largest airline in The People’s Republic of China for the past 27 years, China Southern Airlines – www.cs-air.com/en – connects more than 80 cities around the globe.
In China these include Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, Hong Kong, Kunming, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan and as well as international destinations other than Sydney and Melbourne that include Amsterdam, Bangkok, Fukuoka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Islamabad, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Los Angeles, Manila, Moscow, Osaka, Paris, Penang, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Singapore and Tokyo.
China Southern operates a modern fleet of Boeing 737, 757 and 777 and Airbus A320 family and A330 aircraft, and will introduce new long-range Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A380 models.
