Choice Hotels creating new minority options
Choice Hotels International Inc. says it is creating networking opportunities for minorities looking to own its hotels, including the creation of financial incentives for prospective owners of its Sleep Inn branded hotels. The company said it launched the Choice Hotels African American Owners Alliance (CHAAOA) and the Choice Hotels Hispanic Owners and Managers Alliance (CHHOMA) so African American and Hispanic franchisees can share best practices and experiences. “With the launch of these alliances, Choice Hotels continues to demonstrate the company’s commitment to diversifying its franchisee base,” said Brian Parker, vice president of emerging markets and new business development. The Alliances have more than 30 members. They represent Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Clarion, Sleep Inn, MainStay Suites, Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn brands across the U.S, Mr Parker said. Choice also announced that its new construction, mid-priced Sleep Inn brand hotels launched a minority incentive program that offers qualified African American, Hispanic and Native American entrepreneurs a development incentive of up to $155,000. The Sleep Inn Minority Incentive Program features a feasibility study reimbursement of up to $5,000 for the critical, lender-required step to hotel ownership. Also offered is a 50% discount in affiliation fees, bringing it to $20,000. Further, qualified applicants can receive $70,000 in the form of a fully forgivable note at the grand opening of the property. Choice Hotels will contribute up to $50,000 of the first year’s cost for a professional management company, among other perks, according to company officials. Report by David Wilkening
