CHTA launches ‘One Caribbean Family’ to aid hurricane affected destinations
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association has unveiled a booking initiative that enables hotels to help communities impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The CHTA’s ‘One Caribbean Family’ campaign will serve as a hub for hotels, travel agents and tour operators which can contribute to recovery efforts through guest bookings.
Donations are sent to the Caribbean Tourism Recovery Fund which is managed by Tourism Cares.
"We want to show our solidarity with the Caribbean countries affected by these storms, not just in words but with actions that can bring relief to those in need," said Karolin Troubetzkoy, president of CHTA.
"How can any hotel or hotel chain in the region and our trade partners feel good about securing incremental business as a result of hotel closures due to hurricanes?. While this may sound idealistic, the need to come together and act as one Caribbean tourism family has never been greater."
Donations are tax deductible if applicable and can be made directly online at www.tourismcares.org/caribbean.
Troubetzkoy used the initiative to point out that more than 70% of Caribbean destinations were not affected and are welcoming visitors as usual, and by continuing to come to the region, travelers are directly helping the less fortunate communities.
"When any part of the region is affected, it hits us so close to home, because the entire Caribbean is our home. This is one tangible way our tourism community can stand in solidarity with our neighbors."
