City focus: Tampa Bay
Located on Florida’s west coast, bordering the Gulf of Mexico, the Tampa Bay area is one of Florida’s top travel destinations. Tampa has an average temperature of 72 degrees F and nearby St. Petersburg boasts over 600 miles of coastline, holding the record for most days of sunshine in a year with 361. It’s clear why the area is an attractive destination for coast-loving travelers, but there’s plenty to do inland as well.
The area offers an abundance of activities ranging from museums to casinos to magnificent gardens. There’s something for everyone to discover and enjoy in Tampa Bay.
Start your Florida trip off right by enjoying some citrus treats at St. Petersburg’s Florida Orange Groves, Inc. & Winery. Enjoy some fresh-picked Florida citrus fruits and sample their fresh squeezed orange juice. Then try their specialty fruit wines made with tropical, citrus and berry fruits – but no grapes.
The flavors include mango, pineapple, grapefruit, orange and watermelon wines. These unique beverages are sold in their gift shop along with their fresh citrus produce. Groups can tour the facility and enjoy samples of the many tasty varieties.
To explore more of Florida’s plant life, head to the Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg. This 100-year-old garden/museum contains over 50,000 tropical plants and flowers. The cascading waterfalls, exotic plants and butterfly garden make this a unique and beautiful attraction that can’t be missed.
Next it’s time to roll the dice and cross your fingers as you ask yourself “Do you
feel lucky?” at one of the area’s casinos. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in
Tampa offers 90,000 square feet of gaming fun with 2,200 machines and 50 poker tables to keep you busy. Then enjoy the nightclub, restaurants, pools and Hard Rock retail store when you need a break.
If cruising is more your style, then head up to Madeira Beach and board the
Treasure Island Casino Cruz. This full casino ship features 200 slots and plenty
of blackjack, roulette and poker tables.
