Clashes between police and protestors in Hong Kong
Violence has erupted erupted on the streets of Hong Kong where police have fired rubber bullets and tear gas at crowds protesting against a new extradition bill.
Protestors have blocked main roads around government buildingss and thrown bricks and other objects at police.
They are trying to prevent the government pushing through a bill that will allow extradition from Hong Kong to mainland China.
The bill is expected to pass its final vote on June 20, despite days of protests in Hong Kong where more than a million protestors have taken to the streets.
However, the Legislative Council has now delayed the second reading of the bill, according to the BBC.
The pro-Beijing Council said the meeting originally scheduled for today will now take place at a ‘later time’.
Some 22 people were injured in today’s violence, but none are believed to be critical.
The UK Foreign Office has been warning visitors about the protests since they started on June 9, suggesting tourists ‘remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities’. It hasn’t updated its advice since today’s clashes between police and protestors.
