CLIA applauds CDC lowering warning level for cruising
Cruise Lines International Association and member cruise lines welcomed the eased travel warning from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The CDC dropped its warning from Level 4 ‘Very High’ to Level 3 ‘High ‘suggesting a lower risk factor for cruising.
The CDC still recommends that people who are not fully vaccinated including a booster avoid cruises.
Cruise Lines International Association hailed the warning downgrade as ‘a step in the right direction.’
"It recognizes the leadership and effectiveness of the cruise sector’s health and safety protocols," CLIA said.
"Cruise ships have medical, isolation, and quarantine facilities on site, implement extensive response plans and have created an environment where almost every single person is fully vaccinated."
"As a result, cases of Covid-19 are very low with the vast majority mild or asymptomatic."
Royal Caribbean Group said it had around 2,500 guests who tested positive for Covid-19 out of nearly 1.3 million guests since mid-2021.
"We believe we are past Covid-19 in terms of the overall impact on our business," Royal Caribbean Group CEO Jason Liberty said recently.
