Col Hughes appointed Chair of SCVB
The Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown, last week announced the appointment of Col Hughes to the role of Chairman of the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB).
Mr Brown said Col Hughes has a wealth of experience in international aviation and the travel industry, making him a perfect choice for the role.
Mr Hughes was a director of the SCVB for five years, served on the Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) for 16 years and was the deputy chair of Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF Australia) for five years.
As founding partner of aviation advisory firm, Global Aviation Services and previously holding senior roles at Qantas for six years and Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways, Mr Hughes gained extensive experience in the aviation industry.
Col Hughes is currently Chairman of industry lobby group, the National Tourism Alliance and serves on the boards of Best Western Hotels Australia and Tourism Northern Territory.
“Tourism NSW supports SCVB by providing $2.3 million a year to help the organisation grow business tourism and attract bids to this State,” Mr Brown said.
“I congratulate Col Hughes on his appointment and look forward to working with him and the SCVB Board and management team.”
Mr Hughes said he is delighted to take on the role to bring key business events to Sydney and NSW.
The SCVB is responsible for promoting Sydney and NSW as a meeting, incentive, convention, exhibition and special event destination. It is a non-profit organisation with more than 300 members including hotels, restaurants, attractions, venues, entertainment, professional conference organisers and other business tourism suppliers.
