Colorado’s major resorts escape flood damage
Visit Denver is attempting to reassure visitors to Colorado that none of the region’s major resorts have been affected by the deadly floods which have killed eight people and destroyed 1,500 homes and damaged 17,000 buildings.
More than 3,000 people have been evacuated from flooded towns but 300 people are still missing following a flash-flood rainstorm in the early hours of last Wednesday, although officials say many may be merely stranded in remote areas.
The flood zone covers parts of or all of 17 Colorado counties, including Boulder and Larimer.
However, Visit Denver said none of the major flooding was within 20 miles of Denver and there has been no impact so far on Denver International Airport or on any of the roads into downtown Denver.
It said: "The vast majority of Colorado is open and not impacted by the flooding, including major resort areas such as Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Winter Park."
Updates on areas that have been impacted can be found via the Colorado Division of Emergency Management website at COEmergency.com or on Twitter at @COEmergency.
