Coming soon to Brooklyn: more conventions
Several developments are pushing the Brooklyn area to the forefront of meeting planners, including an $83 million redevelopment effort at the Coney Island amusement park.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan calls for converting the area into a year-round attraction. New restaurants, shops and entertainment venues are planned.
A new hotel and spa will also be built in the area.
The boardwalk itself is expected to be renovated by 2007.
The city is also building a $45 million Brooklyn Cruise Terminal at Piers 11 and 12 which should be completed early next year.
The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is undergoing room additions to
Accommodate the increased activity. The hotel is adding 280 guest rooms and an additional 24 stories.
