Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South Sets Eco-Trends
The Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South is located in Amsterdam Zuidas, a newly developed urban centre devoted to international commerce and knowledge development. Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport, the RAI Convention Centre and the city centre are only a few minutes away by public transport.
Green Globe recently recertified Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South in acknowledgement of its commitment to sustainable operations and management.
Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South uses the IHG Green Engage system, an online environmental sustainability tool that sets and tracks specific reduction goals for carbon, energy, water and waste. Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South has achieved the highest level in the Green Engage system which is awarded to hotels that demonstrate leading and innovative approaches in environmental sustainability.
To reduce carbon emissions, guests and employees are encouraged to travel by local tram, bus and train with stations conveniently located nearby. In addition, rental bikes are available for visitors to explore the city sights whilst enjoying exercise in this scenic location.
Led by the hotel’s Green Team, guests and staff took part in Educational Eco Day, an event organised to highlight the property’s efforts to reduce its impact on the environment, and reduce overall water and energy consumption. Training in sustainability has also been introduced to help employees understand the purpose and goals of the green strategies implemented at the property.
Effective resource management remains an important part of the hotel’s sustainability management plan. Incandescent and halogen lamps continue to be replaced with energy efficient lighting and staff ensure blinds are closed in unoccupied rooms to further conserve electricity usage.
In line with its environmental responsibility, Crowne Plaza Amsterdam-South has its own beehive that provides delicious Dutch honey for guests. The hive also helps boost bee population numbers that are in serious decline worldwide.
