Cruise fanatic gets seasick on land
Veteran cruiser Barbara Farrand has found she gets ‘seasick’ on land after sailing on 47 ships in 17 years.
The 71 year old was struck by the condition called Mal De Terre after a three-month world trip in 2009 to celebrate her Golden Weddings reports the Sun newspaper.
Farrand clings to furniture to stay upright, feels ill watching TV and can’t use a computer but is fine as soon as she’s back on a boat.
She said: "It’s bizarre. I stagger round as if I’m drunk. It seemed funny at first, but it’s depressing.
"It’s like a switch flicked and my brain thinks I’m at sea when I’m on dry land."
Barbara says she will get some respite in April, when she goes on a three-week Caribbean cruise.
She said: "I can’t wait to get back to sea."
