Authorities in Egypt confirmed one cruise guest died following the collision of two Nile cruise ships.

The guest from Italy later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The victim hasn’t been formally named.

The captain of one of the ships, Royal Beau Rivage, is under investigation and had his license suspended.

The General Authority for River Transport says the captain made a sharp maneuver, which led to the collision.

The Royal Beau Rivage is a relatively new ship with capacity for more than 140 passengers.

It was carrying a group of around 80 Italian guests.

The accident happened near Aswan at the Esna Lock.

It collided with The Opera, a river ship with a capacity of nearly 200 guests.

Crew reported damage to its bow while several cabins at the front of the Royal Beau Rivage were significantly damaged.

The female Italian tourist who died was in one of these cabins at the time.

The Italian ambassador to Egypt said there were no other serious injuries reported.
