Cruise lines cancel numerous sailings to avoid Irma’s path
Cruise lines have announced cancellations for numerous sailings this weekend as Hurricane Irma slowly winds it way ominously toward the Florida coastline.
Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Disney have all cancelled cruises.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s voyages on September 8 and 9 have been scrapped out of Miami citing risk to the ‘safety of our guests and crew.’
Passengers booked on Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Escape are entitled to a full refund plus a 50% future cruise credit.
Royal Caribbean cancelled Enchantment of the Seas’ and Majesty of the Seas’ Bahamas cruises on September 8, and Empress of the Seas’ Cuba cruise the following day.
The cruise line said: "For guests on the current sailings of Oasis, Harmony and Allure of the Seas, we have decided to delay the return of these ships until the storm has passed. Due to the unpredictability of the storm, we plan to keep all of our guests currently sailing on these ships safely out of harm’s way."
Carnival Cruise Line also cancelled two sailings out of Galveston, while Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream will head back to Port Canaveral earlier than scheduled and three subsequent sailings are cancelled.
