Cruise lines to send million-dollar donations to the Bahamas
Cruise lines have pledged funds to help build communities ravaged by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd will donate $1m to Hurricane Dorian disaster relief, and its Holistica joint venture partner will contribute an additional $100,000.
Ships will also deliver much needed supplies for the affected areas including generators, water, cleaning supplies, bedding and towels.
Royal Caribbean also will match every dollar passengers and employees make in donations to its nonprofit partner the Pan American Development Foundation.
"For more than half a century, we’ve made many friends. The Bahamas is also home to more than 500 of our colleagues who work at Perfect Day at CocoCay and the Grand Bahama Shipyard," it said.
Walt Disney Company will also donate at least $1 million on behalf of Disney Cruise Line.
"We hope our $1 million donation will provide much-needed relief and help our neighbors, colleagues, and all those impacted by this devastating storm begin the long process of recovery," Disney CEO Bob Iger said.
Disney Cruise Line had taken heat for leaving workers on the appropriately named Castaway Cay as the hurricane bettered the private island.
