A Celebrity cruise ship was involved in a minor collision in South America after it broke free of its moorings.

It happened as guests were still boarding Celebrity Equinox ahead of a 14-night sailing out of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The ship drifted and struck a refueling ship.

It caused scraping to the hull.

The departure from Buenos Aires was delayed due to the collision.

Wind speeds picked up during the embarkation process with gusts of up to 40mph.

It caused mooring lines to break.

The embarkation gangway pulled away from the dock but no injuries were reported.

The ship’s departure was delayed a few hours while a new gangway was fitted and safety checks of the hull were carried out.

The ship stayed in port overnight and departed the following morning

The delay has meant a shorter port call in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The remainder of the Patagonia and Antarctica itinerary is expected to continue as scheduled.
