Cruise ship in collision with whale
Norwegian Breakaway is believed to have hit a 45-foot whale, which caused it to breakdown as it entered its home port of New York.
The cruise liner became stuck on the Hudson River with propulsion and steering problems, causing a three-hour delay on Sunday.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the carcass of a female Sei whale was found stuck to the ship’s bow, but it was unable to say after examining the remains whether it had been alive when the collision occurred.
"At this point, we just don’t know if it was the cause of the ship’s delay," said NOAA investigating officer Jeffrey Ray.
He said the investigation is still ongoing.
