Caribbean hotelier, Elegant Hotels Group is excited to activate a month of celebrations for the group’s ‘grand dame’, Colony Club which celebrates its 70th anniversary in November 2018.
With its rich past, Colony Club has evolved over its 70 years of history, starting as a private home and stables back in 1930 before becoming Barbados’ first residential club and then transforming into the award-winning hotel it is today and an iconic landmark on Barbados legendary West Coast. Originally a sugarcane plantation home, the property was purchased by shipping heiress Ann Embiricos, who developed it in 1948 into a residential club and has since been credited as a pioneer of West Coast luxury hotel development in Barbados. By 1960, it was known as Colony Club and the retreat has undergone numerous additions and refurbishments and now stands proud as a contemporary laid-back resort with 96 rooms and suites.
Colony Club today
One of nine Caribbean properties in the Elegant Hotels Group, Colony Club sits on the finest stretch of beach on Barbados’ Platinum West Coast. With its relaxed atmosphere, beautifully tended gardens and lagoon-style pools, the resort is the ideal destination for those seeking a healthy lifestyle, laidback luxury and elegant dining. For seven decades Colony Club has provided discerning guests countless opportunities to feel the true warmth of Bajan hospitality and experience the golden touches that the property is famous for, from Jazz and Lobster evenings to ‘bait to plate’ fishing excursions where guests can catch and then cook their dinner with a Colony Club chef. A perennial favourite with couples, families and friends – November is set to be spectacular as the property invites guests to join them in the celebrations of this momentous milestone.
Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
To mark this historic occasion, Elegant Hotels Group invites guests to enjoy a month of events from 4th – 24th November – themed around Colony Club’s Platinum Jubilee. Colony Club is known for its incredible culinary offering from the organic garden to sumptuous dining, the property has always highlighted its local environs and the culture of Barbados for guests all whilst showing people a really good time – with these elements at the core, the series of initiatives this November are sure to delight and inspire for another 70 years to come.
Foodie heaven
Gastronomes will delight in the Taste of Barbados concept where guests get to see, taste and feel the spirit of Barbados as the chefs whip up dishes from across the seven decades and demonstrate the diverse cooking styles in Barbados to tantalise taste buds. For foodies who prefer not to get involved in the cooking, the Orchid Menu and Through the Years dinner events are a must, as they will be treated to a reproduction of Colony Club’s old fine dining menu and learn how the restaurant offering and property has evolved through the years.
Even more exciting, Colony Club is set to open the islands first RUM VAULT inside the property. Once launched the Rum Vault will boast the largest collection on Barbados, consisting of an impressive 150 varieties of rums sourced from across the world, available to both connoisseurs and novices
A tempting and fun range of special events and activities will be held in the Rum Vault for both guests and locals. From specially curated rum flights to a rum themed mixology demonstration, as well as a rum inspired cookery class and an exclusive private rum pairing lunch or dinner for up to 8 guests.
The Rum Vault will have a traditional members’ club design with dark woods, leather seats and local artwork. The elegant rum bottles will be displayed to create an atmospheric dining space, in which a locally-made eight-seater tasting table will be placed for intimate dining. Slated to open November 2018.
