England’s Northwest came out on top at the  Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007.  Organised by VisitBritain and sponsored by The Caravan Club, the Awards were held at The Banqueting House in London on April 25.

With four Gold Awards, England’s Northwest this year boasts more winners than any other English region, highlighting the strength of the region’s tourism industry.

All of the winners had previously won at the England’s Northwest Tourism Awards, organised by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), and prior to that had come out on top at their sub-regional awards.

This year’s Caravan Holiday Park of the Year winner is Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside, Cumbria. Set in the heart of the Lake District National Park, the park boasts views of the Langdale Pikes and is home to a wide range of wildlife. There is also an adventure playground with versatile sports pitch, laundrette facilities, fully equipped shower and toilet blocks and disabled facilities. (01539 432277)

The other winners were:
The Small Hotel of the Year winner is Stanley House, Mellor in Lancashire.  The Grade II listed hotel features 12 individually designed bedrooms with luxury en-suite facilities, function suites and the acclaimed restaurant Cassis. Located close to both the city of Preston and the Lake District, the hotel was praised for its high quality of accommodation with real character, as well as its use of local produce and commitment to sustainability within the local community. (01254 769200).

This is the third consecutive year that England’s Northwest has won the Small Hotel of the Year category at the national awards. Stanley House was preceeded in 2006 by Chester’s Green Bough Hotel and in 2005 by the Samling in Windermere.

The Large Hotel of the Year winner is The Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa, a Grade II listed building located in the historic heart of Chester. A large financial investment has been made over the past few years, ensuring guest expectations continue to be exceeded. Awards judges commented that the hotel displayed: “Excellence at every level with an amazing attention to personal service to each and every customer”. (01244 324024)

The Bed and Breakfast of the Year winner is Number One, Blackpool, a stylish and chic property located on Blackpool’s South Shore, just a few minutes from the Promenade and Pleasure Beach. (01253 343 901)
