Cut-price Korea for students

SEOUL – The Korea Tourism Organisation is wooing young visitors from around the world with the publication of a booklet ‘Benefits in Korea’ which contains discounts for International Student Identity Card (ISIC) holders visiting the country.

Discounts of up to 50 percent are being offered for ISIC cardholders on everything from visits to royal palaces and tombs, museums, cultural performances, accommodation, entertainment, restaurants and transportation around the country.

With the KR Pass (Korea Railpass) ISIC cardholders receive good discounts on three and 10-day passes.

Discounts are available on getting to and from Korea from China and Japan with 20 percent off international ferry services as well as domestic ferry discounts. The Seoul City Tour Bus also offers a discount of 10 percent for ISIC cardholders.

Accommodation in Korean guesthouses and backpackers hostels is very cheap for young travelers with dorm rooms costing around US$18 per night. ISIC cardholders can receive discounts of around 10 percent at various guesthouses and backpackers hostels.

ISIC helps save on sightseeing as well with up to 50 percent off the National Palace and National Folk Museum of Korea. Popular theatre performances in Seoul like the Chongdong Theatre which offers traditional Korean performances at 25 percent off and modern shows like Jump and Love Dance offer 20 percent off.

Popular theme parks offer discounts to ISIC cardholders as well. Everland, Korea’s largest theme park, approximately one hour south of Seoul has a discounted day pass costing approximately US$36.
