Cyclone threatens India
India has been issued with a cyclone warning as heavy rains and storms threaten the south east.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office updated its advice to say a cyclonic storm is forecast to hit Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry by this evening.
It said: "There is currently very heavy rainfall over the north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry which is expected to continue for the next 24-48 hours.
"Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. The wind speed could increase to 55 km per hour and a cyclonic storm is forecast to make landfall by the evening of Monday 9 November."
Local authorities in India have declared today a public holiday, closing schools and colleges.
It added that transport and other local services are likely to be disrupted.
