Deadly typhoon grounds hundreds of flights
Hundreds of flights were grounded and disruption continues in Hong Kong following a deadly typhoon.
The Foreign Office updated its advice today saying there would be significant ongoing disruption to air travel in Hong Kong, as well as other modes of transport.
"You should follow advice of local authorities about disruption to travel and services," it told visitors.
Cathay Pacific said it was now expecting a ‘gradual return’ to scheduled flight operations but urged passengers to check their flight status.
Typhoon Mangkhut caused damage to buildings, including high rise hotels, and shut down transport in Hong Kong.
For the first time in its history, Macau’s casinos were ordered to close.
The storm, which has already killed dozens of people in the Philippines, is now making its way across southern China.
According to state media, two people have been killed in the Chinese province of Guangdong and more than 2.5 million people have been evacuated in Guangdong and on Hainan island.
The typhoon is now moving inland and is expected to hit the Chinese regions of Guizhou, Chongqing and Yunnan later today.
