Deal signed to get more Mexican tourists to Britain
VisitBritain has signed an agreement designed to bring more Mexican tourists to the UK and encourage more Brits to go to Mexico.
It has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mexico Tourism Board to help boost tourist traffic between the two countries.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who is currently attending the G20 summit in Mexico, led the mission.
Under the agreement, the UK and Mexico will develop tourism initiatives with an emphasis on luxury travel, adventure, nature, beach, sport and cultural tourism.
VisitBritain chairman Christopher Rodrigues said: "Tourism is an industry that can deliver growth and jobs to both Mexico and Britain, at a time when the global economic environment looks challenging.
"Latin America is of increasing significance to Britain as we look to deliver an economic legacy from the global showcasing that will result from hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games."
He said the Mexican inbound industry is worth £57 million to the UK economy each year.
Last year, there were 78,000 visits from Mexico to the UK and 300,000 UK visits to Mexico, 92% of them for a holiday.
Signing the deal: Christopher Rodrigues, chairman of VisitBritain, and Gloria Guevara Manzo, the Mexican Minister of Tourism and head of the Mexico Tourism Board.
