Death toll rises in Indonesia aircraft tragedy
Almost 150 people are now known to have died when an Indonesian aircraft crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff.
The tragedy is reported to have killed at least 109 on the aircraft and 39 on the ground as the jet, operated by low cost carrier Mandala, plunged onto a busy road in the Sumatran city of Medan. Officials said 13 people survived.
Investigations into the crash, which took place in overcast conditions, was still taking place and were focusing on “take-off failure.”
