Delta and LATAM sign trans-American JV
Delta Air Lines and LATAM Airlines Group have made their trans-American joint venture agreement official.
Pending regulatory approvals, they plan to ramp up cooperation to combine route networks between North and South America for more seamless connections.
The global Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t diminished the goal of expanding connectivity across the Americas.
"Even as our carriers contend with the impact of Covid-19 on our business and take steps to protect the safety of our customers and employees, we are also building the airline alliance we know they’ll want to fly in the future," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian.
Delta and LATAM began partnering in September 2019 and rolled out codeshare agreements in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil.
Loyalty members can earn and use miles across the respective networks, and reciprocal lounge access is available at New York JFK and Bogota.
This will be expanded further throughout the Americas from June 2020.
The next stage will see cooperation expanded on long-haul flights between North and South America, as well as regional flights.
LATAM regional units in Chile and Argentina will sign codeshare agreements in the coming weeks, the airlines said.
