Delta Private Jets takes flight with Wheels Up merger
Delta Air Lines’ subsidiary Delta Private Jets has entered into a long-term partnership with private aviation company Wheels Up which could ultimately create one of the world’s largest private jet fleets.
The merger will give Delta a minority stake in the combined company which will have about 200 planes.
The deal is expected to close early in 2020.
"This will democratize private aviation — making the convenience of private jet travel accessible to more consumers," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian.
The Wheels Up digital platform and membership program will be integrated with Delta Private Jets.
It has about 8,000 members and customers.
Neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the transaction.
"The combination of Wheels Up and Delta Private Jets, along with the partnership commitments between Delta and Wheels Up, aligns with our growth objectives and vision," said Kenny Dichter, founder and CEO of Wheels Up.
