Delta Queen: another casualty of Katrina?
The Delta Queen’s main market in the winter is New Orleans. And right now that’s no place for tourism.
The cruise line runs its three ships along the Mississippi River between Memphis, Tenn., and New Orleans. The company originally said the voyages would continue after Katrina but last week many voyages were cancelled.
“There’s concern in the trade by travel agents…about just what is the future of this company,” said Michael Driscoll, editor of Cruise Week newsletter.
Delta Queen is pursuing charter contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to house workers involved in the clean up.
“But the riverboat company may be running out of steam,” speculated The Boston Herald, citing the resignation of some top executives.
