Delta serves up sewing needles in sandwiches
AP reports that business class passengers aboard several Delta Airlines flights this Sunday were served turkey sandwiches that had sewing needles in them.
Four flights from Amsterdam to the US on Delta appeared to have been targeted by tampering that left one passenger injured.
The flights originated in Amsterdam. Two of the flights were traveling to Atlanta and the others were en route to Minneapolis and Seattle.
The food was pre-prepared in the Amsterdam kitchen of Gate Gourmet. The company issued a statement that they were going to investigate the issue and would step up ‘already stringent’ safety and security measures. The FBI has already been brought in and is also investigating the potentially lethal tampering.
Delta’s written statement said they were taking the matter ‘extremely seriously.’ They said they were cooperating with local and federal authorities investigating the incident.
In 2010, USA Today reported that the FDA had investigated Gate Gourmet and had found numerous health and safety violations.
