Delta upgrades app with airport maps

Friday, 21 Feb, 2017 0
Delta Air Lines has released a new update for the Fly Delta app offering detailed airport information.

The app includes interactive wayfinding maps for 20 major airports, enabling fliers to quickly find boarding gates, F&B outlets and baggage reclaim.

Full mapping has been rolled out for airports including Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York’s JFK and LaGuardia, London Heathrow and Tokyo Narita with more to follow.

The mapping function was developed in collaboration with tech start-up LocusLabs.

It offers an unique offline mode where maps can be accessed directly through customers’ boarding passes with an iPhone by touching departure city code, arrival city code or departure gate number, a first for the industry Delta says.

"Delta’s airport maps are another customer experience differentiator. We went beyond the industry standard to fully integrate maps into the boarding pass and other parts of our app experience. We are trying to anticipate when customers may want or need to use a map and provide an easy and intuitive way to do that – whether to find a Sky Club, a gate or a cup of coffee," said Rhonda Crawford, Delta vice president, global distribution and digital strategy.
