Delta upgrades the transcontinental customer experience
Delta this week began selling seats — or rather beds — on three new flat-bed equipped planes for flights beginning July 1, 2014, the latest step in a year-long effort to beef up its profitable transcontinental service.
The new 757s will have 16 full flat-bed seats arranged in a 2-2 configuration, each 20 inches wide and an average 76 inches long, as well as high-def 16-inch video monitors.
Customers further toward the back of the plane will find 44 Economy Comfort seats, offering extra legroom, 35 inches of pitch and 50% more recline. All seats in the economy cabin will feature a slim-line design for more personal space, an adjustable headrest, a nine-inch video monitor and 110v and USB power ports.
Delta already offers flat-bed seats on eight daily flights on the route, and said it plans by summer 2015 to offer full flat-bed seats to BusinessElite customers on all flights between New York-JFK and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
The entire transcon fleet will offer complimentary Starbucks coffee and headsets, and in-flight Wi-Fi; all the upgraded aircraft will offer entertainment libraries of 1,000 on-demand options and 18 channels of live satellite TV.
