Denver seeking Democratic convention

Sunday, 05 Oct, 2006 0

There was speculation the unionization of the 1,100-room Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center would help the city win the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic National Committee confirmed the site candidates are down to Denver and New York City.

Meanwhile, plans are proceeding for the 2008 National Republican Convention to be held in early September in Minnesota’s Twin Cities.

Some main events will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Almost 100 area hotels are providing 20,000 room nights, according to media reports.

The Twin Cities had also been in the running for the Democratic National Convention.
