Despite restrictions, visitors generally happy with Hawaii Safe Travels program
Despite employing some of the harshest Covid-19 restrictions in the country, visitors to Hawaii have generally been pleased with their vacations.
A survey conducted by the Hawaii Tourism Authority in late December and early January found 90% of travelers had an ‘excellent’ trip.
The survey between 21 December and January 4 looked at visitor experiences of the Safe Travels program and overall satisfaction of the trip.
Hawaii’s pre-arrival testing protocols were well publicized nationwide with less than 1% of respondents saying they were unaware of them when traveling.
More than one-third of those that had issues during their Hawaii vacation blamed a lack of activities open due to Covid restrictions.
Only 29% said they were able to do everything they wanted to.
More than 20% had issues with the testing requirements, with late delivery of test reults before departure and a difficulty in finding verified testing centers in their home state.
Ross Birch, Executive Director of the Island of Hawaii Visitors Bureau, said the testing process is the biggest obstacle in attracting larger numbers of mainland visitors due to the 72 hour time constraint to avoid an initial quarantine.
