Digital travel sales in Asia to surpass North American market next year

Monday, 14 Jul, 2016 0

Digital travel sales in Asia Pacific will overtake North America next year, making it the biggest region in the world.

A new eMarketer report says Asia travellers will spend $216 billion next year, up 23%, compared to $200 million in North America.

The report cites the growing demand for international travel in China.

"The biggest opportunities for companies and startups will be in mobile and online travel agencies, as both will expand their share of online bookings," eMarketer analyst Chris Bendtsen told CNBC.

"For China in particular, the growing number of international travellers will allow travel-related companies all over the world to benefit from increased digital sales."

China’s market share of digital travel sales globally will be up to 24% by 2020, eMarketer says.
