Discover California This Summer With Free Road Trips Guide
This summer discover California’s with the newly released California Road Trips 2008. This 32-page guide, produced by the California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC) and Sunset Custom Communications, contains detailed maps that guide readers to the state’s historical sites, organic wineries, stunning coastline, azure lakes and beyond.
Originally titled California Drives, the guide’s new name is more reflective of the active lifestyle and getaway nature that is intrinsic to Californians. Also new this year are driving routes that cross the Golden State’s 12 regions, making it more user-friendly to travelers, many of whom want driving routes that maximize three-day trips. The publication also contains a map of the state, as well as the locations of the 13 California Welcome Centers where personal concierges share information about local attractions, fun activities, outdoor recreation, dining, shopping and lodging.
“California Road Trips 2008 is styled after our popular California Visitor’s Guide,†said Caroline Beteta, CTTC President and Chief Executive Officer. “It reinforces the California attitude, while giving visitors the inside scoop about things to see and do on the road in both rural and urban settings. It’s an essential piece for travelers, especially those planning to visit the Golden State in the next 12 months.â€
Driving itineraries include discovering waterfalls and rivers in the Shasta Cascade area, along with visiting eco-friendly attractions along the North Coast. Children are the focus in the San Francisco Bay Area region, with its driving routes to high-tech, hands-on exhibits, while splashing otters take center stage in the Central Coast. It’s all about California’s natural splendor through the High Sierra, and then discovering gold and exploring old mine shafts in the Gold Country.
Visitors can experience the richness of the Central Valley with stops to sample sun-sweet produce, and then it’s on to the lush gardens and sunset beaches of Los Angeles County. It’s easy to catch the beach vibe in Orange County and explore the contrasting rugged landscape of the Inland Empire with its mountain hamlets. Visitors can indulge under the sun in the Desert before treasure hunting at a bounty of chic boutiques, art galleries, wineries and beachside stops in San Diego County.
The CTTC is a non-profit organization with a mission to develop and maintain marketing programs – in partnership with the state’s travel industry – that keep California top-of-mind as a premier travel destination. According to the CTTC, travel and tourism expenditures total $96.7 billion annually in California, support jobs for 924,100 Californians and generate $5.8 billion in state and local tax revenues.
