Discover Rhode Island

They say the best things come in small packages.

Rhode Island is the smallest US state and relatively under the radar to foreign visitors. Despite its size Rhode Island boasts 400 miles of Atlantic shoreline.

It’s a perfect option for any traveller looking for a classic New England experience. Here’s what’s new for 2023.

In recognition of the huge HBO hit; The Gilded Age  the Preservation Society of Newport County has introduced new tours of ‘Summer Cottages, one’of the great family dynasties who once ran New York society.  Much of the show was filmed and set within Newport’s preserved mansions and ‘Inside The Gilded Age Tour’ gives visitors an opportunity to explore the show’s settings in person.  The locations of properties such as The Breakers, Marble House and Rosecliff are laid out along the Cliff Walk,  with idyllic outlooks over the ocean. www.newportmansions.org

The White Horse Tavern in Newport RI purports to be the oldest tavern in the United States. In 2023 it will celebrate 350 years. Chef Kevin DeMarco understands the importance of local produce and infusing flavours with freshness. Immerse in American history at this National Historic Landmark, welcoming guests since 1673.

Newport Aquarium – Save The Bay will move its Exploration Center and Aquarium to the first floor of the Gateway Transportation and Visitors Center on America’s Cup Avenue. The new location will increase the square footage of the aquarium five-fold and, with 6,500 square feet to work with, Save The Bay plans to enhance its educational programmes. It brings a brand-new family-friendly experience to downtown Newport. The new facility is on track to open in summer 2023.
