Disney denies India plans
The Walt Disney company has denied reports that it is planning to set up a theme park in India – despite its chief executive visiting the country last week. The Daily Telegraph quotes “officials” in New Delhi as saying that Disney is “lobbying hard” to secure a site it has identified outside the capital, New Delhi, adding that the development comes as the company prepared to open its Hong Kong park.
But United States media sources quote Jay Rasulo, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, as saying: “We have not had any discussions in India regarding the opening of a theme park or purchasing land and do not plan any in the foreseeable future.”
However, the company is separately quoted as saying that the executives were in India to “explore and discuss future opportunities for Diney in the burgeoning market of India”.
The Hong Kong park is scheduled to open on 12 September.
